The Route des Monts Otish, now known as the Route 167 Extension, is the road development project designed to connect the communities of Chibougamau and Mistissini to the Renard Diamond Project by way of several other prospective mining projects and the proposed Albanel-Témiscamie-Otish Park.
The Route 167 Extension is one part of the Quebec Government's bigger picture development plans for northern Quebec referred to as the Plan Nord. A website has been set up by the government to supply information to the general public about the Plan. It is currently only available in french.

A video montage of support from many of the stakeholders of the Plan Nord is available on the site as well.

Latest Updates on Road Development (as of May 28, 2010)
The Ministry of Transport, Quebec ("MTQ") expects the completion of their Environmental and Social Impact Assessment ("ESIA") and feasibility study (done by Roche/SNC-Lavallin consortium) by september 2010. They will then be in position to obtain their construction permits in time to start the road construction in spring or summer of 2011. Stornoway and the road commitee is in close touch with the MTQ with the purpose to assure a perfect match of both construction schedules (the Route 167 extension and the Renard Mine).
